Feet are grounded, Hands are held with an intentional forceful grip. I pull the kettlebell between my legs and drive through my hips to watch the bell float in the air.
That’s a little taste of my experience at the Kettlebell Dynamics workshop. For the first time in a while, I was a student again. Learning from Melora allowed me to truly realize how knowledgeable she is, when it comes to the world of kettlebells.
A couple key takeaways I learned:
The feet and hands are the only body parts we have, with which we have the ability to create volitional “tension”.
Creating tension in our lats allow us to hold the ribcage in a proper position.
The swing phase of the kettlebell comes from the hip thrusting forward action.
The clean phase, before the press, requires a slight rotation of the ribcage from the elbow position.
The initiation of the press phase, after the clean, comes from legs, specifically a push off of the heels, onto the ball of foot.
The placement of the KB on the floor, is key to a proper swing.
The set up for the single arm KB swing is key to the success of your swing.
All in all, I left with some new-found knowledge, a lot of sweat, and even more inspiration to improve the skills I learned during the workshop. We will be having our next Kettlebell Dynamics Workshop on the 27th of October, which will focus on plyometric and isometric for joint health. Once again, time to be a student!
